Amanda Miranda

Employee Relations Sr. Director, Walgreens

“My Latina roots have instilled the value of having a strong work ethic,” shares Puerto Rican born Amanda Miranda, Employee Relations Sr. Director, Walgreens. “The importance of having a great work ethic is not talked about enough and it is a key value that can drive success in many areas.”

Amanda Miranda is the Employee Relations Senior Director in Human Resources for Walgreens, based in Deerfield, IL. While in college, Miranda was told she should work in housekeeping or human resources because she knew Spanish. This set her on the path to become a voice in the organization and supporting positive relations between members and supervisors. She felt insulted at that time to hear that those were the only things she could do well. Now that she can make such a significant contribution at Walgreens, she is grateful that the individual gave her the idea to work in human resources.

Since joining Walgreens in 2014 as an Employee Relations Specialist, Miranda now serves as the Vice Chair of the Latino Professionals Business Resource Group (BRG). Her participation in this role drives diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across Walgreens, and provides team members with additional resource opportunities for career development.

Employee relations also oversees company policies and procedures to ensure they protect employees’ rights and hold parties accountable to create a positive work environment.

“I have such fond memories of Walgreens when I was growing up,” she shares. “I remember going to my local Walgreens in Puerto Rico like three times a week. Having the opportunity to work for a company I had a sentimental attachment to was an opportunity I was not going to pass, and on top of that doing a job that supported employees was something that really caught my attention. I never thought they would hire me since I assumed they received thousands of applications for the job, but one key skill that made my resume rise from the pile, was the fact that I spoke Spanish and they needed someone to support Puerto Rico. I always encourage people to apply to that job with the company they want as you might just be what they are looking for.”
