Dora Olivo Named First-Ever Latina Justice of Peace in Fort Bend County

Dora Olivo, a distinguished attorney and school teacher, takes office as the first Latina Justice of the Peace in Precinct 4, expressing her readiness to serve the people.

Olivo is a former Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, representing District 27 from 1997 to 2011. Olivo is the Founder of the Lo Nuestro Radio Show, KFRD, serving as host from 1977-1992. She is an attorney and teacher.

Olivo is a Board Member of the Fort Bend Housing Finance Corporation and National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators. She previously served on the Board of the Fort Bend Family Health Clinic and was Director of the Fort Bend Voter Registration Education Project.

Puerto Rican born Johanna Santana is the chapter's first Latina to hold the position in the club's 50-year history. Sasha Staton, originally from Venezuela, joins her as President-Elect, making this leadership duo a historic first for the chapter – a testament to its commitment to fostering inclusive and visionary leadership. Both Santana and Staton bring a wealth of experience to the public relations field, ensuring a strong and forward-thinking direction for the chapter.

“I’m honored to be part of this moment in our chapter’s history,” said Santana. “Alongside President-Elect Sasha Staton and our board, we are dedicated to elevating the PR profession, supporting our members in their journey to success, and cultivating tomorrow’s leaders.”

This appointment, combined with the installation of the new board members, signifies a promising future for FPRA Volusia/Flagler. The chapter looks forward to a year of innovative leadership, delivering valuable experiences and opportunities to its members, and inspiring future leaders in the communications field.

In this leadership role, Rodriguez will oversee NPR’s global 200-plus-person newsgathering operation including reporters based internationally, across the country and in Washington DC. She will serve as the senior editorial leader for all of NPR’s platforms, news desks, and beats, including desk editors, reporters, correspondents and associated production staff.

“Eva’s award-winning journalism career is deep and varied with extensive experience in digital media and a strong commitment to making sure the audience is front and center,” said Chapin. “The breadth and depth of Eva’s experience both in areas covered and organizations she has worked in will serve us well.
